Custom foot orthotics are devices designed to align the ankle and foot into the best anatomical position. While these devices look similar to shoe inserts, they are custom made biomechanical medical appliances to correct specific foot imbalances. Custom foot orthotics reduce strain and stress on the body and help realign the foot by redirecting motion that occurs during gait. These devices are made from precise imprints of your feet and fit comfortable into your shoes.
Poor foot mechanics can be caused by hip, back, heel, bunion and localized foot pain. Custom foot orthotics can help prevent pain, knee and foot injury. So, what kind of shoe do you need for custom foot orthotics? For the most part, any shoe with a removable insole will work. Just remove the insole and replace it with a custom orthotic. There are also custom sandals and clogs that can have a prescribed device built right in. The longer your wear custom foot orthotics, the more benefit you will reap. If your daily activities include changing your footwear, custom orthotics can be designed for specific activities, such as working out at the gym.
At first, you may feel some pressure in your foot or ankle when first wearing custom foot orthotics. That is because the custom orthotic is working its magic and realigning the foot structure. For this reason, we recommend wearing these devices in two hour intervals and then slowly increasing the wear time over two weeks. You also do not have to be concerned about custom orthotics reducing muscle tone. These devices position the foot to use the right muscles at the right time and more efficiently.
